Before we start opening doors in Asheville or Western North Carolina, let’s sit down and get to know each other. I recommend a buyer consultation as our first stop. It gives us a chance to talk through your plans and helps you decide whether I am the right person to guide you.
A buyer consultation accomplishes two things: it provides a foundation for understanding the process and gives you an opportunity to interview your agent.
Learn What to Expect
Every state handles real estate differently. During our conversation, we will discuss the North Carolina buying process, financing preparation, property searches, offers, inspections, and closing.
We will also review buyer representation and compensation so you understand the working relationship before committing to an agreement or beginning tours.
Bring your questions, your wish list, and even your “I have no idea what I’m doing” concerns. You do not need to have everything figured out before we meet. That is the whole point of getting together!
Look for the Right Experience
Not all agents have the same knowledge, availability, or areas of expertise. If you are buying a mountain home, for example, experience with private roads, steep access, wells, and septic systems can be valuable.
Look beyond the number of years someone has held a license. The number and variety of transactions they have navigated can tell you more about their practical experience. Ask how that experience relates to the kind of property you want.
I learn something new with every transaction. A solid foundation helps me recognize concerns, ask better questions, and know when we need another professional. A good agent should also be willing to refer you elsewhere when your needs fall outside their expertise.
Questions Worth Asking
- Have you helped buyers purchase the type of property I want?
- How will we communicate, and when are you available?
- What will you help me evaluate before making an offer?
- How do your services, agreement, and compensation work?
Most importantly, you should feel comfortable asking questions and confident in your agent's ability to advise you. The relationship matters.
