You are a homeowner! Cue the happy dance—and the inevitable “which box has the coffee maker?” search. Whether you have purchased your first house, a mountain getaway, or the next chapter in your life, I hope the experience has left you feeling informed and confident.
Our relationship continues after closing.
Start with the Practical Details
Once closing is complete and you are entitled to possession, give yourself time to get familiar with the property.
Consider these first tasks:
- Update locks, access codes, and connected security devices.
- Confirm utilities and services are active.
- Locate water shutoffs, the electrical panel, and important equipment.
- Organize inspection reports, warranties, manuals, and closing records.
- Review maintenance items and decide what needs attention first.
If your home has a well, septic system, private road, or HOA, keep the relevant contacts and responsibilities somewhere easy to find.
Make a Maintenance Plan
Your inspection report can help you organize future work. Ask the appropriate professionals about safety concerns, service schedules, and repairs rather than assuming every item requires the same urgency.
As you settle in, watch how the home and property function through changing weather. Drainage, gutters, heating and cooling, and outdoor maintenance all become easier to understand with experience.
You do not need to tackle every improvement immediately. The paint samples can wait until you have found the coffee maker. Living in the home may help you decide which changes will make the biggest difference.
Keep in Touch
You might need a painter next month, a contractor in six months, or help thinking through an improvement next year. I am happy to share recommendations and help you find the right person to answer a question.
One of the things I value most about real estate is the relationships that develop along the way. I want to remain a resource you feel comfortable calling.
Enjoy your home, and remember: I am only a phone call, text, or email away.
